Artist Statement

Images are central to my creativity within the discipline of painting. The images I make generate unspecified illusionary space magnified through combining the perceptual oppositions of representation and abstract painting. The images are produced with a few painting techniques with which I strive to make a different image each time. The paintings are painted ninety-five percent first-go in what is a physically draining and time consuming process in which action and constraint articulate the use of up to fifty plus color combinations. The viewer can be engrossed by the optical, visceral, emotive colors and textures provided through the painting process, or engage within the conceptual language and psychological plays established by the titles. Consequently, I strive to make paintings a workout for the eye, the mind, and the body.
